Nuwaya Eliya .... !




Nuwaya Eliya is a town situated in the mountain in sri lanka. It is famous for its cold climate. Nuwaya Eliya means”City of light”. It is also called ‘little England’ because of its climate and the houses and the buildings built during the British rule in sri lanka.

PIdurutala gala, the tallest mountain in the country over looks the Nuwaya Eliya town. It is said that the city was founded by Samuel baker who s the legend ary discoverer of lake albert.

Nuwaya Eliya is the main city for the tea production in sri lanka.As you all know, Sri lanka is one of the world’s largest exporters of tea. Since tea was introduced to sri lanka in the mid 19th century, Nuwaya Eliya has been the capital of the tea industry. For many miles before reaching Nuwaya Eliya form any direction you will find acres and acres of tea plantations and tea states. Though the city was found by the british in 19th century, today it is visited mostly by locals. Most of the visitors come during the month of april where there are flowers ,pony races,go carting races and motor rallies.

There are a few attractions in Nuwaya Eliya, the Victoria park,golf club,boating on lake Gregory,hakala Botanical gardens are some of the main attractions. Visitors who visit Horton plains is a key wildlife area of open grassy woodland.
